I am having some trouble with my “Truths” time with the kiddos. I have a topic in mind, but they take it on so many different tangents that it gets lost in the muddle. For example, tonight I wanted to talk about Proverbs 3:5 – Trust God with all your heart and do not try to figure everything out on your own.” (Paraphrased for 9-12 year olds)
They got going about Eve eating forbidden fruit. I really have no idea how we got there. First it was Mr. Hockey saying that God has a plan and he’s a lot better at figuring things out than we are. Then Electric Lady pipes up with “Like Eve.” Then Elasto-Boy claims that “Eve was made from Adam’s rib.” Queen Bee must be heard, exclaiming “And that is how woman is made.”
Mr. Hockey, trying ever so hard to get back on topic, says “Wow, Adam must have trusted God to let him take his rib.” Electric Lady’s assumption? “Adam was too trusting. That is how they ate the forbidden fruit. He trusted Eve.”
This is not the road I wanted to go down… I redirected… the talk got long, everybody got sort of board and by the end Queen Bee and Elasto-Boy were about to pop because they cannot be in the same room for more than 5 minutes or they burst in sillies.
Next week? I am giving them colouring sheets while reading them the story of creation, since they are so interested anyway! I’ll let you know how it goes!
As for now, here are their sheets about trusting God and how He is “G”uiding “O”ur “D”ecisions.
